Questioning The Tarot

Questioning The TarotWhether you’re reading for yourself or you have your cards read for you by a professional reader either way to get the most out of your reading, you’ll want to pay particular attention to what you’re asking and how you’re asking. In this post I’m going to give you some tips and examples on questioning the Tarot. I’ve broken this post up into what can be ask, what can’t be asked and how to ask.

What Can Be Asked

The Tarot is primarily used for guidance and gaining clarity on a situation so any questions relating to these aspects are a great place to start. Questions around self improvement, making progress along your path and gaining a deeper understanding of  a situation are all great aspects to look at during a reading. Below are some sample questions that are great to ask during a reading, these can be altered somewhat to suit what guidance or clarity you are looking for.

  • What do I need to know or understand right now?
  • Is there something that I need to be more focused on?
  • Am I putting my energies and efforts into the right places?
  • Where should I be putting my energies or focus right now?
  • Am I on the right track with my path / life?
  •  What is my Life / Soul purpose?
  • How do I make a difference in the world?
  • How can I have a positive impact on the world?
  • What do I need to do more or less of?
  • Is my current life serving my higher purpose?
  • Am I on track with my career?
  • How can I better or improve my career, relationships or path?
  • What can I do to bring a loving relationship into my life?
  • Is there something I can do to assist X person in my life?

What Not To Ask

The lotto numbers is a big one here! Now if a reader was able to predict the lotto numbers we would have  a lot less readers and psychics in the world as they would all be retiring to a permanent island holiday. Unethical questions – will my lover ever leave his wife, how can I bring this person down, or how can I make this person suffer for what they have done to me – yes these questions do get asked. Questions about someone else and their personal matters that have nothing to do with you, here we start to delve into another person’s personal space and you’re essentially asking the reader to pry into matters that if the person wanted you to know about they would share them with you in the first place. Questions about time, some readers are definitely able to give very accurate times or time frames, but when questioning the Tarot try not to be tempted to ask for timelines, if you are given confirmation that something will be happening it’s for you to trust that and allow it to materialise when it needs to. One also needs to keep in mind that things like time don’t actually exist on the Ethereal planes and that the concept of time if actually very unique to each individual person. It has happened where a reader has given a time, say for example the month of March, but now the person having the reading is expecting it to be the next month of March to arrive, however it could still happen within the month of March just not the year they expect. Asking for timing is often can leave you open to disappointment when the expected time comes and nothing happens. So let’s look at a few examples of what not to ask.

  • When will I win the win lotto?
  • When will I be rich?
  • When will my lover leave his / her wife / husband?
  • What is X persons problem?
  • What can I do to make X person fail or bring them down?
  • Will X person get what they deserve (in the negative sense)?
  • When will I find love?
  • What does X person really think of me?
  • When will I die?
  • How long will I live?
  • How long will X person live?
  • Does my boss find me attractive?
  • Does my boyfriend / girlfriends friend find me attractive or have feelings for me?

How To Ask Questions

So we now have a pretty good idea of what we can and can’t ask, but how we ask our questions is just as important. Try and avoid yes / no based questions. Rather ask questions that are open ended. Yes / no based questions don’t really leave you with much room for gaining insight and can often limit your options or rather don’t allow you to see all of your options. Questions should also never take away responsibility from the Querent – should I take the job, should I move, leave etc. When questioning the Tarot you need to remove all judgements and your questions should be non-judgemental – why is X person so ugly, what is X persons issue? Other judgements you want to avoid is self judgement – why am I so stupid, why do I always make bad decisions?

You’ll also want to keep your questions neutral, this can help with removing judgements from your questions and allows you to keep your questions open ended. Try strive for some balance in your questions so don’t go into serious details and tell your life story just to ask a single question, but also avoid being too vague – what can you tell me about my career? You’ll also want to avoid leaving your questions up to the Universe in other words telling the reader to give you whatever comes up, or doing a “you tell me” based reading is never a good idea as it leaves everything very up in the air and often one can feel quite disappointed with their reading. Sometimes these readings can work out well, but rather try not to leave things up to Fate and rather take control of your reading and give it the direction you want well keeping in mind what  you can and can’t ask.

So before you venture out to your next reading rather take a bit of time to think on what you would like to gain from your reading, write down actual questions or key points you would like to focus on, bearing in mind what can and can’t be asked. By doing this you won’t find yourself leaving and suddenly remembering something else you wanted to ask, you’ll also feel a lot more prepared and you’ll give your reading a great direction. This can also assist your reader by giving them a set direction to take. Remember readers are very Intuitive and most of them highly psychic, but that doesn’t means they’re mind readers and know everything or what you’re thinking. Readings are there to assist us along our path utilise them fully and correctly and you’ll find some beautiful guidance and clarity being given and you’ll likely find life becomes simpler.
